Yesterday, the world lost the best man.

A few days, after the few seconds it takes
To feel the streams in your heart as it breaks
And spill into the flow of your lungs as they shake
And disintegrate in the weight of this state.

He swam across the finish line
For the thousandth time, now- he's sinking in the center
And only air can enter
Through a tube that's so fine- a straw
As he claws to the surface but the raw,
Heavy waves are pushing him down.

A few days- what you once thought was not a lot
Now all you got
Is a few days to remember who you are
And how far you are
From the exact same stars you used to watch
As you sang "Fishing in The Dark"

A few days to remember why
You liked country music and decide
As you try, not to cry. But you might be right
And it might be time for those words that you fight
So you write the words he recites-
He said, magpies can't fly

With weight on their feet.
When it's cold, they're too weak.
But be bold, be strong, like concreate
You watch his heart as it beats
You can't cheat, death.
You can't defeat, regret.
You can't compete, with debt.
Give love, and laugh instead.

A few days to take all the pain away
And pray. And say, to God,
Look inside me and guide me
And forgive all the days I've been away
Forgive all the days I forgot to say thanks
And give me the strength to find light in lord's praise.

A few days to be the "you" you grew into
Because the words that he threw your way,
To reach you, and teach you, and feed you
So you could be the you, you always wanted to.

To survive, be alive, and thrive, by his side
In his eyes, and realize not to criticize
And don't tell lies and always apologize.
And know, the best place is home.
And show you, you won't be alone.
And that your blood and your bones,
Your thoughts and your soul,
All your dreams and your goals
Have a backbone, and that's a home.
No matter how big you've grown
No matter how far you've flown
You have a family that's your own.

A few seconds left
Before you accept life as death
You fight to see one last breath
But know peace begins to undress
And all memories confess, that dad has blessed you

And showed you love.
And gave you hope
Even though
You weren't his own.

He said, "They need love too."

Rest in peace, dad <3
